An analysis of the site was required as the scale of the city was to be deconstructed due to the size. The project was based in Battery Park in New York City. Understanding the scale of this city was important because of all the factors that can come into constructing something new there. We only focused on Battery Park because of its interesting history involving the trading port, the monument walk, and the construction of the coastline. The project involved constructing a tower that represented the area. After the analysis of the city and scale was finished a concept for the tower was developed. This involved using the historical context of the ground in Battery Park and creating connections between different points of history through drawing. The concept of the tower involved digging for artifacts and mapping them out in order to create spatial zones through the concept of excavation. The tower was then given functions. The program was created with a basis of the history of the park and how it was a trading port and how it was also destroyed and built over different periods of time. The tower was set in an older time period (1970's) and progressed to our current time. The original tower was used as a monument building site. Through the tower different points of construction were placed as materials moved vertically to a showroom at the top. At our current time the tower shows reminiscence of the past, but introduces the program of a hotel and is also seen as a monument from the past as it is where things were built.
